Bristol Motor Speedway will clean up its act in 2024 and no longer host a dirt race, track officials announced Friday.
The Food City Dirt Race took place in the spring at the Tennessee track in each of the past three years, with layers of dirt covering the concrete track surface.
Officials hoped the unique format would boost attendance and television ratings, but the dirt races met with mixed reviews and the experiment apparently is over.
"We are thrilled to announce Bristol Motor Speedway will host the return of the Food City 500 on the concrete high-banks of the World's Fastest Half Mile in the spring of 2024," the track posted on social media Friday.
The announcement was made as Bristol prepares to host Saturday night's NASCAR Cup Series playoff race.
The winners of the Bristol dirt races were Joey Logano (2021), Kyle Busch (2022) and Christopher Bell (2023).
