Chandigarh [India], August 23 (ANI): The Monsoon Session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha began on Friday with obituary resolutions paying rich tributes to prominent personalities and freedom fighters.
Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Harvinder Kalyan, Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and INLD MLA Aditya Devilal read out obituary references, honouring late leaders, freedom fighters, victims of tragedies, and soldiers who laid down their lives for the nation.
The House mourned the demise of former Governor Satya Pal Malik, former MLAs Inder Singh Nain and Hari Ram Balmiki, and freedom fighter Mangal Singh.
Condolences were also expressed over the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, that claimed 26 innocent lives, and the tragic Air India flight crash from Ahmedabad to London on June 12, which killed 260 passengers, including former Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani. A tearful tribute was paid to 43 soldiers from Haryana who made the supreme sacrifice in the service of the nation.
However, the session turned stormy when the opposition raised uproar over the Manisha case. Reacting sharply, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini accused the Congress of politicising the matter and misleading the public. He said the issue was already listed for discussion during the Question Hour, but the opposition was disrupting proceedings for political gains.
Defending his government's handling of the case of the Bhiwani daughter, Saini asserted that the police acted promptly, and strict action has already been taken against the accused. He drew a sharp contrast between the BJP government's swift response and the Congress regime's failure to ensure justice.
'Under Congress rule, the law and order situation was so bad that even FIRs were not registered, and victims were forced to run from pillar to post. Today, immediate and strict action is ensured,' the Chief Minister said, adding that people have not forgotten the 'shameful and pathetic' state of law and order under the previous regime.
Saini further remarked that some newly elected young MLAs of the opposition do not even realise how grim the situation was during Congress rule, but the public remembers it well. (ANI)
