ASEAN+3 finance ministers conclude meeting in MilanFinance ministers and central bank governors from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ASEAN Plus Three or 10+3) finished their 28th annual meeting here on Sunday.Co-chaired by China and Malaysia this year, the meeting focused on global and regional macroeconomic developments and regional financial cooperation under the 10+3 framework and issued a joint statement.According to the statement, participants supported the updating of the strategic direction for ASEAN+3 financial cooperation and agreed to launch technical assistance tools aimed at addressing medium- to long-term structural challenges.Trump to impose tariffs on movies "produced in foreign lands"U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday that he is authorizing to immediately begin the process of instituting a 100 percent tariff on all movies "produced in Foreign Lands."In a post on his Truth Social platform, Trump wrote, "The Movie Industry in America is DYING a very fast death.""Other Countries are offering all sorts of incentives to draw our filmmakers and studios away from the United States. Hollywood, and many other areas within the U.S.A., are being devastated," Trump said in the post, calling the situation "a National Security threat."Trump to pay "stipend" for illegal immigrants' "self-deportation"The Trump administration announced on Monday that it will pay illegal immigrants in the United States 1,000 dollars plus their travel expenses if they leave voluntarily, in an effort to step up its mass deportation."Today, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced a historic opportunity for illegal aliens to receive both financial and travel assistance to facilitate travel back to their home country through the CBP (Customs Border Protection) Home App," the department said in a statement."Any illegal alien who uses the CBP Home App to self-deport will also receive a stipend of 1,000 dollars, paid after their return to their home country has been confirmed through the app," the statement read.Britain commemorates WW II with military processionBritain held military processions and a Royal Air Force flypast on Monday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day.The flypast followed a military parade of around 1,300 personnel marching from Parliament Square to Buckingham Palace, including representatives from NATO and Ukrainian soldiers. The royal family and dignitaries observed the procession in front of the Queen Victoria Memorial.After the procession, King Charles III and Queen Camilla appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony alongside the Prince and Princess of Wales and their children to observe the flypast.Over 16,000 children killed in Gaza since war startsMore than 16,000 children have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the onset of Israel's military offensive on Oct. 7, 2023, at a rate of one child every 40 minutes, Gaza-based health authorities reported on Monday.Marwan al-Hams, director of field hospitals with Gaza's health authorities, said the toll included 16,278 children, among them 908 infants and 311 newborns who died after birth. Al-Hams made the statement during a press briefing at the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.He highlighted that the humanitarian situation had significantly worsened since Israel closed the crossings in early March, disrupting essential healthcare services. This has left thousands of children and pregnant women without access to medical care, further exacerbating the crisis.Iran, EU ready to hold political talksIran and the European Union (EU) have voiced their readiness to hold political talks over their differences and mutual concerns, according to a statement released by the Iranian Foreign Ministry on Monday.In a phone call, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi and EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas discussed the latest regional and international developments, as well as the progress of indirect nuclear talks between Tehran and Washington, said the statement.Araghchi emphasized Iran's "responsible" approach of choosing diplomacy to resolve what he described as "fabricated concerns" about its "peaceful nuclear program," stressing that advancing the path requires the other side's serious determination and realism.Romanian PM announces resignationRomanian Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced his resignation on Monday at the headquarters of the Social Democratic Party (PSD).The announcement comes as Romania's ruling PSD declared its decision to withdraw from the governing coalition."One of the two objectives of the governing coalition was not achieved, which means that the governing coalition lacks legitimacy - at least in its current composition," Ciolacu said, referencing the fallout after the first round of Romania's presidential election rerun on Sunday. Crin Antonescu, the presidential candidate representing the governing coalition, failed to secure a spot in the second-round runoff scheduled for May 18.
