BRUSSELS, Belgium: European Union antitrust regulators are examining fees imposed by payment giants Visa and Mastercard, Bloomberg News reported this week, adding to the mounting scrutiny of global card networks.
The investigation reportedly focuses on whether the fees charged by the two companies may violate EU competition rules. Both firms have previously been probed over cross-border payment practices and interchange fees in the region.
Spokespersons for Visa and Mastercard did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.
