The British monarch suggested that, had it not been for British intervention in North America, Americans might currently be speaking French.

The light-hearted exchange occurred as both leaders affirmed the strength of the 'special relationship' between the UK and the US. The remark served as a direct response to the President's previous comments regarding European allies and the history of global conflict.

'You recently commented, Mr President, that if it were not for the United States, European countries would be speaking German. Dare I say that if it wasn't for us, you'd be speaking French,' King Charles stated, eliciting loud laughter from the gathered guests.

The King's quip referred to the 18th-century colonial rivalry, where Britain and France vied for territorial control of the North American continent.
